CLIENT::
Architect Nikolaus David Steinke

DELIVERABLES::
Portfolio book

YEAR::
2010

BRIEF::
When Bauhaus Weimar graduate, Nik Steinke approached me and asked me to give my opinion on the portfolio book that he was designing, I told him that if I was ever to build a house, I'd hire a real architect and not attempt to build it myself, just like he in this case should hire me to do his book. He hesitated and insisted he didn't need any help. A couple of weeks and several sleepless nights later, he finally changed his mind and asked me to make him a "clean, simple & minimal" presentation of his work.

SOLUTION::
Putting myself in an architects mindset I approached the project from a mathematical standpoint and set out to create something that was based on a very firm grid and a strict system based on repeated squares. The horizontal lines are used consistently to reinforce the format of the book and also as a section and chapter marker. The mono-spaced type enforces the technical and mathematical theme and creates and interesting contrast next to the warm, humanist font used for the section heads.
